Today (Monday), Minister of Education Yoav Kisch announced that Prof. Yinon Ben-Neriah, a physician, immunologist, and leading cancer researcher, has been awarded the Israel Prize for Medical Research for the year (2025).
The prize committee, chaired by Prof. Julio Weinstein, included members Prof. Ehud Grossman, Prof. Michal Laufer Pearl, and Prof. Itamar Raz.
The committee stated in its reasoning:
“Prof. Ben-Neria is a groundbreaking researcher in the field of cancer research, having discovered mechanisms behind cancer development that have led—and continue to lead—to the creation of drugs for treating the disease. His research has been published in the most esteemed scientific and professional journals worldwide.”
The committee also noted:
“His research has contributed to the development of anti-cancer drugs, from anti-inflammatory agents to cancer inhibitors. One of his discoveries led to the development of a drug used worldwide for treating leukemia patients.”
The Israel Prize is the most prestigious and significant award given in Israel, recognizing achievements in various fields of endeavor and creativity. The prizes will be awarded on the eve of Israel’s 77th Independence Day to outstanding Israelis who have demonstrated exceptional excellence, groundbreaking achievements in their fields, or made significant contributions to Israeli society.
Keep up your outstanding work and contributions—The entire Lautenberg Center is proud of you!
